On April 21, Henrik Gert Hassager successfully defended his PhD thesis titled "Characterizing perceptual externalization in listeners with normal, impaired and aided-impaired hearing".

In his thesis, Henrik investigated the aspects of sound that are important for externalization and how these can be affected by hearing loss and hearing aids. By improving our understanding of this, his work should impact the development and evaluation of new signal processing strategies in hearing assistive devices. Ideally, this work could help design compensation strategies for hearing-impaired listeners such that their spatial perception is not compromised by the applied amplification.
